FSTC Conference:

'Science and  Islam: Past, Present and Future'

Part of the BA Festival of Science
University of Salford 8-12 September, 2003

'Science and Islam: Past, Present and Future' was the theme of the one day conference that was staged by the MuslimHeritage.com team at the annual Festival of Science Week organised by the British Association for the Advancement of Science. Some of the top minds from the worlds of science, history and philosophy presented and debated the role of science in Islam and how and why Muslim civilisation was able to make great advances in human civilisation through faith inspired scientific activity.

Conference Highlights:

This conference provided a critical analysis of the past contributions Muslims have made in science and technology. It also included an informed discussion to examine the extent which Islamic Science has influenced the past developments of Western society as well as the scientific achievements of the modern era. The day concluded with a debate on whether Religion and Islam in particular, could continue to pervade into the future realms of scientific and technological progress.

Visitors Comments:

It was a real eye opener. I was left with the feeling that here is
something new and definitely worth studying further.

Ronald - London

A fascinating insight into how Islam held the torch for global
civilisation for many centuries.

Susan - Salford

As a European Muslim, I was overwhelmed with hearing of the huge
unpublicised role of an advanced Islamic civilisation in Europe over 1000
years. Why is this history missing and where can I learn more?

Yasmin - London
