Sana'a is one of the oldest cities of Yemen, indeed one of the oldest in the World, dating back to the Sabean dynasty. Earliest references to its existance date back to the 1st Century AD (in real terms, this was the century in which Buddhism first entered China). In this article Eric Hansen considers the efforts being made to converse ‘the old city' while also allowing for the progress and development of a vibrant home to over one and a half million people.
