Two forthcoming conferences are being organised in Manchester in April and June 2013 by the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC). To avoid confusion in the minds of our readers and members, the Foundation for Science, Technology and Civilisation (FSTC), which publishes this global academic website Muslimheritage.com, being a non-religious and non-political British organisation devoted to disseminating knowledge about Muslim Heritage (see About Us), has no ties or connection with BMHC.
1. Islam, Science and Scientism
According to the orgnisers, the first of the two conferences will be organised 27-28 April 2013 in Manchester by the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC) on Islam, Science and Scientism. This conference aims to offer a better appreciation of Islamic culture and civilisation and the Muslim contribution to modern science and civilisation, aspects that are little appreciated or totally misunderstood today. This event is also intended to bring a better understanding of the interactions and exchanges, which have taken place between various faiths and cultures in enriching the common heritage of different communities. It will involve the participation of scholars and audiences of all faiths and backgrounds."
2. Tadabbur al Qur'an
The second conference is the First International Seminar on "Tadabbur al-Qur'an" in Europe. It is organised by the European Academy of Quranic Studies (based at the British Muslim Heritage Centre (BMHC)), and its venue is at the BMHC in Manchester, UK. It will be held in June 1-2, 2013.
Among the speakers announced: Shaykh Abdullah Basfar (Madina), Shaykh Fahd al Wahbi (Madina), Professor Zagloul al Najjar (Egypt), Professor Abdullah Mangood (Egypt), Dr Muhammad Saleh (Al Azhar, Egypt), Dr Hanaa Abu Dawoud (King Abdul Aziz University, Saudi Arabia).
According to the organisers of the conference, Tadabbur is the process that the Qur'an uses to urge people of intellect to ponder, think, analyse, listen, contemplate, examine and understand. The organisers of the conference wrote:
"Do you want to explore and learn more about Tadabbur? Do you know the perquisites to study the Qur'an? Do you know the role of participation of the inner self? Have you ever considered Tadabbur - its meaning, importance, textual basis, its key principles and practice? Do you know and understand the difference in practice between Tafsir and Tadabbur? Would you like to reflect on practical examples of Tadabbur from the Qur'an and their application in daily life? Would you like to learn how to establish Quranic study groups to practice Tadabbur?
"If the answer to these questions is yes! Please join it at the 1st International Seminar on Tadabbur al Qur'an." Website: www.eaqs.org
