"Amir Qabus": Shams al-Ma'ali Qabus ibn Wushmagir (978-1012 CE), a poet and patron of poets and scholars, he took part in the dynastic struggles between the Buyids and the Samanids for control of Khurasan and Jurjan, usually on the side of the Samanids, where he spent a great deal of time in exile. After the fall of the Samanids he was forced to accept the suzerainty of the Ghaznavids.
