Foundation for Science Technology and Civilization
Introducing FSTC The Foundation for Science Technology and Civilization (FSTC) is a United Kingdom based educational entity which was formed to popularize, disseminate and promote an accurate account of Muslim Heritage and its contribution to present day science, technology and civilization. FSTC's Mission Statement FSTC's main mission is to raise global awareness on the importance and relevance of Muslim heritage, and its unrecognised contribution to World civilization today. It aims to: • Uncover and demonstrate the influence of Muslim heritage on today's world. • Promote better understanding between Muslims and Non-Muslims through education. • Present evidence to fill the gaps in the knowledge of the history of Islamic science and civilization. • Provide factual information to enable correction of the current published material, especially those in the education circles, e.g. UK National Curriculum, relating to the history of Muslim science. • Investigate how Islam inspired the development of science and draw lessons from the lives of the Muslim founders of modern civilization. Muslim Heritage A vast repository of knowledge and historical data on the critical role of the Muslim contribution to science, technology and world civilization is available in library archives throughout the world. This repository, if comprehensively extracted, documented and popularised, would provide stronger intellectual foundations for Muslims to begin to reassert their identity as major pioneers of human civilization. The research carried out from the latter decades of the 19th century until now has produced excellent work on Muslim heritage and has collated valuable source material. There is however no project that has set out to catalogue and centralise all the available ressources on Muslim heritage and make them available globally in a popular format. Through the advancement in Internet technologies, FSTC created an appropriate platform to allow global access to new ressources of Muslim heritage, including source materials, 3-D recreated models of Muslim and an online community of scholars and contributors. FSTC Capacity and Resources As well as owning, developing and maintaining www.MuslimHeritage.com, FSTC produces publications, films, conferences, teacher training courses and seminars on the subject. The most recent project is the ground breaking interactive touring exhibition: 1001inventions: Discover the Muslim heritage in our world, accompanied by a high quality book of the same title, a Teachers' pack, a poster set and a dedicated website: for details see www.1001inventions.com. FSTC has developed a highly active worldwide network of experts and researchers who can identify and access source material of various types to form the basis of content objects for inclusion on the Muslim Heritage website or for use in related projects. We also have a highly experienced board of advisors who are closely involved in our activities and can leverage resources within their own organisations and networks to provide additional capacity. The web portal www.MuslimHeritage.com, a unique online education community, brings together Muslims and Non-Muslims seeking to advance civilization through the study of Muslim Heritage. Pioneered by the FSTC in the UK, it is an ambitious project that aims to raise global awareness on the importance and relevance of Muslim Heritage and its mostly unacknowledged contribution to current world civilization. The website has a readership of over 1 million people from all over the world including scholars, teachers, students and children. During the past four years, FSTC has funded research and established the Foundation as a long-term and farsighted organisation. A reputable team and infrastructure (researchers, academic network, database, and website) are already in place.
